Hope. Support. Refuge.
We exist to offer hope, support, & refuge to vulnerable children and families through Nutrition, Health, and Education.
Children who do not receive sufficient nutrition do not develop to their full cognitive and physiological potential.
Children who do not have access to enough nutrition are already permanently behind by age 2.
They will never be able to achieve as much educationally, impacting the number of opportunities available to them.
Guatemala has one of the highest rates of chronic malnutrition in the world. Nearly half of all children under age 5 in Guatemala suffer from stunted physical and cognitive development due to chronic malnutrition.
Children who do not have access to enough nutrition are likely to remain trapped in the cycle of poverty, repeating it into the next generations of children with the same deficiencies and disadvantages.
Almost 50% of the students in Hays County, TX are classified as "economically disadvantaged." These students receive free or reduced meals at school because they are at risk of food insecurity. This is not uncommon throughout Texas, where the statewide percentage of disadvantaged youth is 60.6%.
